In keeping with documenting and celebrating local history, Muncie Public Library is looking to The Mark III Tap Room and local Muncie residents to document the history of the Muncie LGBT community. The public is invited to attend this event at The Mark III Tap Room to learn about The Mark History Project and how they can contribute their experiences to this ongoing project.Library: Offsite
Librarian Sara McKinley and Librarian Dr. Anthony Amstutz will present on the history of The Mark III Tap Room, Indiana's oldest gay bar. This presentation will be based upon gathered information and oral histories from Muncie residents working in conjuncture with The Mark's past and present owners and customers.
Dr. Emily Johnson, assistant professor of history at Ball State University, will follow with her own presentation regarding the gathering of oral histories as well as provide context about other similar LGBT history studies that have been done in other places. Dr. Emily Johnson teaches modern American history, with a focus on women and gender. Dr. Johnson received her Ph.D. from Yale University in 2014.
